CAPPO ATHLETICS – PROTECTING THE CARDIOVASCULAR HEALTH OF STUDENT ATHLETES

Undetected cardiovascular abnormalities are a real threat to your players. Sudden cardiac arrest is the leading medical cause of death among young athletes today, and most who die from heart conditions show no warning symptoms at all. Heart issues are not the only concern when it comes to your students. Risk factors common to athletes, such as dehydration, trauma, and long travel, make them more susceptible to underlying vascular conditions such as blood clots, which can be a real danger if left untreated.

Cappo Health is the industry leader in on-site cardiovascular diagnostic testing, and through our athletic division, Cappo Athletics, we bring comprehensive cardiac testing and vascular ultrasound to high schools, colleges, universities, and sports facilities throughout the country to help minimize sudden death among young athletes.

OUR TESTING MODEL IS UNMATCHED

Tests performed by Cappo Athletics are not traditionally done during a routine examination; yet they are important in not only detecting abnormalities that can prove life-threatening, but also alerting athletes to conditions that may affect them later in life.

Diagnosis empowers athletes to make important decisions to effectively manage their health, whether that means undergoing further evaluation or surgery to fix a defect, coming to terms with physical limitations, or being aware of a condition that may carry risk months, years, or even decades down the road.

Our comprehensive testing program includes EKG, echocardiogram, and vascular ultrasound. All tests are non-invasive, and we protect the privacy of your students.

CAPPO ATHLETICS HELPS SAVE LIVES

Diagnostic testing is the first line of defense against preventing sudden cardiac death. We have helped schools save the lives of their athletes by identifying these life-threatening cardiovascular conditions before sudden cardiac arrest happened:

  • Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy: #1 medical cause of sudden cardiac death in young athletes
  • Congenital coronary artery anomalies: #2 cause of sudden cardiac death in young athletes
  • Various types of cardiomyopathies (enlarged or weakened heart)
  • Wolff-Parkinson-White: an extra electrical pathway in the heart that can be cured by simple ablation
  • Aortic root enlargement and aneurysm formation, as can be associated with Marfan syndrome
  • Significant heart valve problems
  • Atrial and ventricular septal defects
  • Long QT syndrome
